DTMF keypresses not registering

Callers pressing phone keys don't trigger IVR actions, menus get stuck.

Symptoms

  • IVR waits for keypress, timeout expires, callback never branches
  • Different callers (different carriers) have different experiences
  • Works on some routes, fails on others

Common causes

  • DTMF mode mismatch between carrier and Asterisk (info vs rfc2833 vs inband)
  • Audio codec stripping DTMF (some codecs don't support inband tones)
  • Network packet loss disrupting DTMF transmission
